Guangzhou R&F Football Club, commonly known as R&F, is a professional football club based in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. Established in 2010 by the Guangzhou R&F Real Estate Group, the club entered the Chinese Super League (CSL) in the 2011 season. Over the past decade, Guangzhou R&F became a prominent figure in Chinese football, renowned for its attacking style of play and its significant contributions to the sport in the region.
The club's early years were marked by steady development, but it truly rose to prominence during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Under the management of head coach César Farias and later Luiz Felipe Scolari, R&F established itself as a formidable attacking force. The team achieved the rare feat of finishing as CSL runners-up in both 2013 and 2014, consistently boasting one of the highest goal tallies in the league. This success allowed the club to qualify for the AFC Champions League, the premier club competition in Asia, marking a high point in their history.
Guangzhou R&F was famous for its "high-intensity" football, often playing an entertaining brand of soccer that thrilled fans. The club also attracted several high-profile international stars. Notably, Israeli striker Joshua Zivkovsky (known as Joshua) became a club legend, breaking the CSL single-season scoring record. Another iconic figure was Fabio Cannavaro, the former World Cup-winning captain, who played for and later coached the team, bridging the gap between the club's golden era and its eventual transition.
Throughout its existence, the club moved stadiums multiple times, from the historic Yuexiu Stadium to the Guangzhou University City Stadium, and finally to the Guangzhou International Sports Arena in Huadu. However, the club faced severe financial challenges in recent years, a common issue in Chinese football. In 2021, due to financial constraints and the restructuring of Chinese clubs, Guangzhou R&F was forced to merge with its rivals, Guangzhou Evergrande (now Guangzhou FC), to form a new entity. Following the merger and subsequent rebranding, the club eventually ceased operations and exited professional football in 2022.

While the team no longer exists on the field, the legacy of Guangzhou R&F remains. They are remembered for their passionate fans, their high-scoring games, and their role in elevating the standard of football in Southern China. The story of Guangzhou R&F serves as a chapter in the rapid evolution and turbulent history of Chinese football.
